Long, Single-etched Very Rare SS Panzer dress bayonet with etch Nr. 3222 in the 1938 Eickhorn catalog. See page 113 of Waynes etch bayo book.
Condition: Overall condition of this rare dress bayonet would be considered Ex+++. A very small bit of pealing can be seen above the Panzer depiction. This does not however detract from the great detail within the Skull and Crossed Bones or Panzerinsert. The balance of the etch is quite clean with all the frosted areas in tact. In the ricasso just below the leather washer two very small notches (see pictures) were most likely put there by the veteran who wished to display this beautiful example. I am told this can be repaired. An additional leather washer could also be used to cover the notches withoutany discernable difference in the display of the bayonet.
The hilt and crossguard have no pealing and are still bright.
This particular example is linked directly to the SS through the black frog which has the number 42 and the SS runes on the reverse. The bayonet, scabbard and frog represent a great collectable unit. Due to the notches mentioned and the bit of pealing in the etch the price is very realistic at 2,800.00. Eickhorn 3222 Panzer examples are now in the $ 3,000.00 to $ 5,000.00 area without the SS frog identification
